Christmas is just round the corner and this is when the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and genital infections increases the most. One reason may be that the fiesta of fun often makes young girls and boys oblivious to taking the necessary precautions while getting intimate. Unsafe sex, as in sex without condom or other barrier methods, can expose you to the risk of genital herpes and fever blisters this winter. Herpes is a genital infection while fever blisters (also known as cold sores) attack the lip or the area around it.

Both genital herpes and cold sores are highly contagious infections spread easily by person-to-person contact. The virus which is responsible for these sexually transmitted infections is called the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It can be passed on to you when you engage in any form of sexual activities with someone who already has this virus in his/her body. You can use Valtrex for cold sores and herpes treatment, but what about preventing them in the first place?

The surest way to keep the HSV at bay is to abstain from sex altogether. Even kissing or oral sex can transmit the herpes virus and cause cold sores. But if you do not really welcome the idea of total abstinence from sex on New Year’s Eve, at least make sure the woman you get intimate with does not have the virus. But there is another problem associated with knowing who has the virus. The HSV can stay dormant inside the human body for an indefinite period of time and even then it can be transmitted through sexual contact.

Looking at all the probable constraints you might have to face, it’s better to engage in sex in a safer way to prevent genital herpes and cold sores outbreaks. Always use condoms while having sex. Never have sex or even get physical with somebody who has symptoms of herpes or sores. By following these simple advices, you can expect to have a warm and exciting time in the coming months!
